Changing farming across Donegal for the better
The Agri-Climate Rural Environment Scheme (‘ACRES’) was launched by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine in Autumn 2022. This latest scheme is part of Ireland’s CAP strategic plan and replaces the GLAS scheme. ACRES aims to deliver significant long-term environmental improvement through two approaches – ACRES Co-operation and ACRES General.
You can find out what scheme you are eligible for by contacting your agricultural advisor or by sending a text message to 50124 with the words ‘DAFM ACRES’ followed by your herd number or partnership ID.
ACRES Initiatives
ACRES Donegal
Co-Operation Programme
The ACRES Co-operation approach is available to farmers in defined high priority geographical areas (known as the CP Zones) who opt to undertake measures, as well as bespoke farm, and landscape actions. Farmers participating in this approach will have the assistance of a Donegal Cooperation Project (CP) Team, who will assist agricultural advisors and participants with implementation of the scheme at a local level. Payments of up to €10,500 per annum are available to farmers who meet the eligibility criteria and carry out a range of actions.
ACRES Donegal
General Programme
The ACRES General approach offers a range of targeted and general measures for individual farmers. A participant’s agricultural advisor will help with registering and choosing actions under this scheme. ACRES General is primarily for participants whose lands are outside of the CP zones, although applicants who have land that falls inside the CP zones are still eligible for some limited actions. Payments of up to €7,311 per annum are available to farmers who meet the eligibility criteria.
